Carlito's Cabana 1 Page Business Plan
Overview
Carlito's Cabana has a clear business objective to produce Caribbean Southern Food products and services. These products and services have been developed over a year with a core focus on addressing the key customer problem and associated opportunities.
The Business Objectives
When as a key component of our growth strategy we consider it critical to identify and outline our business objectives, and align these objectives with clear and measurable development milestones. Our key long term business objective is to grow revenue. Rapid revenue growth is considered the most critical and measurable business goal. At this stage of our development, we consider this to be more important than profitability growth, although both are important long term objectives.
The Customer
Carlito's Cabana has been created with a clear focus on the needs of our customers. Through a structured customer discovery process, we have validated the key customer problem as lack of variety and creativity in many carts. While there is a great number of food carts with a wide range of diversity, I believe there is a demand for good Caribbean food done right and healthy! I know what Portlanders love and can bring them my level of experience and knowledge. This is a critical issue for our selected target market of local foodies.
The Value Proposition
Carlito's Cabana is uniquely positioned to deliver value to local foodies and workers on lunch leave. It will offer great Caribbean food with a southern twist, combining many years living in the south with a family history of the Caribbean. In order to deliver on this value proposition, we offer a healthy and tasty variation of Caribbean Southern food, showcasing local produce and proteins. This capability has taken considerable time and resources to develop and forms the cornerstone of our competitive advantage.
Competitors
We have a number of competitors within the Caribbean Southern Food market. We consider our key competitors to be Pambiche and El Cubo de Cuba. Our understanding of these competitors has been used to refine our strategy and value proposition. We believe that we can compete effectively with Pambiche and El Cubo de Cuba by showcasing local flavors and healthy options, often not found in Caribbean food. We will put a great focus on produce from local farms bringing in vegetarians and gluten free customers.
Key Strategies
Over the next 6 months our focus will be to plan and test menu and recipe ideas that will showcase my fifteen years in the culinary industry with northwest local ingredients and flavors, blending Caribbean cooking with southern roots! I will hold a special dinner tasting event to be held at KitchenCru, where I'll display my menu, cooking techniques, culinary ambitions and exquisite food to 40 people of the industry; including chefs, foodies, critics and potential customers! I'll also start spreading the word through word of mouth to my culinary colleagues and friends and via social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. This task will be undertaken in the context of our broader strategy. After 6 months of menu testing and getting word of mouth I will access where I'm at and where I can go! My plan is to have some interest in investing in my idea to open a food truck working with designers for the internet interest and cart design in creating a "Carlito" brand. I will work with local farmers and purveyors and frequent farmers markets in Washington and Oregon discussing my ideas and networking and holding tastings. I will start marketing with free samples and "walking the beat" and a viral assault a month before opening and offering punch cards for the first couple of months to garner repeat customers. These strategies are a tactical implementation of our overall business goal as outlined above.
Milestones
Measurement of the successful implementation of our strategies will be governed by measurable development milestones. The milestones that will be achieved over the next 2 years are: Acquire a food truck with necessary equipment with all permits and understanding of mobile vending laws. Reach 1000 likes on Facebook and achieve media attention. Branch into catering events and the like. Open a brick and mortar, "La Cocina de Carlito".
