Overview
Robjohns Farm has a clear business objective to offer a fully contained events, holiday accommodation and outdoor pursuits service. These services are yet to be developed but there are a number of facilities already in place such as a 1.8 acre carp lake, 2 annexes and 5.5 acres of land to address the key customer problem and associated opportunities.
The Business Objectives
When as a key component of our growth strategy we consider it critical to identify and outline our business objectives, and align these objectives with clear and measurable development milestones. Our key long term business objective is to maintain profitability. Profitability is considered to be the critical activity in order to provide an income from the first year and build a business which will grow and facilitate further development of services. We understand that to establish and maintain profitability will require an initial outlay of costs which must be fiercely monitored and justified, minimal staffing costs and a considerable amount of work.
The Customer
Robjohns Farm has been created with a clear focus on the needs of our customers. Through a structured customer discovery process, we have validated the key customer problem as expensive rural getaways/events venues with little in the way of onsite activities and amenities. This is a critical issue for our selected target market of young professionals and their future or current families.
The Value Proposition
Robjohns Farm is uniquely positioned to deliver value to young professional families because, "Robjohns Farm offers fully self contained holiday accommodation, affordable events services and onsite activities delivered by a team dedicated to ensuring our customer's complete happiness and satisfaction." In order to be deliver on this value proposition, we are affordably priced and offer unparalleled customer service. This capability has taken considerable time and resources to develop and forms the cornerstone of our competitive advantage.
Competitors
We have a number of competitors within the Events, holiday lets and outdoor pursuits market. We consider our key competitor to be: Daw Street Farm - Finchingfield and Spains Hall Estate - Finchingfield with additional competitors as Brook Farm - Wethersfield, The Blue Egg Farm Shop and Cafe - Braintree, Fennes Estate - Bocking and The Three Tonnes - Finchingfield
Our understanding of these competitors has been used to refine our strategy and value proposition. We believe that we can compete effectively with the aforementioned competitors with our self contained accommodation, events services and outdoor activities.
Key Strategies
Over the next 6 months to 1 year our focus will be on quick wins such as:
Events and planning service - hiring grounds for weddings, parties and corporate events and using key holidays e.g. Christmas, halloween, summer beer festivals etc. to deliver our own memorable events for the local area
Letting annexes for holiday accommodation
Establish a members only fishing club
The above will start to generate income for the business whilst additional work goes onto ensure future growth. This will include:
Farm Shop - renovating suitable outbuilding, sourcing and creating products
Networking within the village and surrounding areas to gain buy in from locals and make useful contacts
Offer increased activities Such as shooting and golf
Renovate stable blocks for more holiday lets/facilities e.g. Sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, children's play barn
Introduce small livestock e.g. Chickens, pigs, sheep for petting zoo/produce
Plan a music festival
These strategies are a tactical implementation of our overall business goal as outlined above.
Milestones
Measurement of the successful implementation of our strategies will be governed by measurable development milestones. The milestones that will be achieved over the next 2 years are: consistent holiday let bookings, consistent event bookings and an established members only fishing club.
